Dougherty County- Two-year-old Charles Roberts Jr. was playing around a parked car Tuesday evening with his four brothers when one of the boys decided to climb inside.

"The one inside apparently knocked the vehicle out of park," said Cpl. Andrew Hayslip with the Albany Police Department.

The car rolled on top of Charles' head and chest. But a man nearby spotted him under the car.

"He jumped out and several other guys in the neighborhood were able to lift the vehicle off the child," Hayslip said.

Some of those who ran to help heard the cries of Charles' mother.

"She asked for my help, so I got down and lifted the car," said Michael McAfee, who lives in the neighborhood.

For about a week, the 1991 Lincoln owned by Charles' father has been sitting in the driveway broken down, but without the parking brake on. If charges are filed, the father may face a fine failing to set the parking brake.
