Albany- The Albany State football team will have to wait until next year to play their first football game at their new on-campus stadium.
Albany State was planning to play their first game in the new Albany Municipal Coliseum on November 8th against Morehouse.
However, The University notified the Dougherty County School System athletic department that the Morehouse game will be played at Hugh Mills Stadium.
Various sources have told Newscenter Ten Sports that problems with the playing surface at the Albany Municipal Coliseum is why the Golden Rams will not be able to play at their new stadium this season.
However, no one at the University will comment on why the Morehouse game will not be played at the new stadium and a promised statement from Albany State still has not been received.
Albany State began construction of the stadium this year even though the University lost half of the promised 10 million dollars in state funding.
The University is continuing to raise money for the facility that still needs seats on the visiting side of the field as well as locker rooms.
Albany State is scheduled to open the 2004 season at home against Valdosta State.
