Albany- Paramedics say it's difficult to treat an obese patient if the equipment can't handle the extra weight.
"It is a problem, but there are stretchers on the market that are designed for large patients and we're looking in to that and we tackled this about two years ago," says Sam Allen of Dougherty County EMS.
Two years ago, Dougherty County EMS replaced it's old stretchers with new ones designed to accommodate 500 to 600 pound patients. They also purchased a chair that allows them to roll patients up to 400 pounds up and down stairs.
