Lake Park Mayor will stay in office

October 20, 2003

Lake Park - A South Georgia mayor will stay in office, despite a three to one vote by the city council to remove him.

A superior court judge ruled in favor of Lake Park Mayor Keith Sandlin. Back in July, the city council voted to remove him on charges of malfeasance and abandonment of office.

The judge said that an elected official can only be recalled under the Georgia Recall Act, and not according to the city's charter. He also ruled that the city of Lake Park pay all of Sandlin's defense attorney's fees.

Sandlin is seeking re-election against councilman Jesse Fender in the November election.
