Hand Trading Company is sold

October 10, 2003

Pelham - A deal is finally done for the Hand Trading Company in Pelham.

The president of KCH Enterprises, Bo Godwin, sold the historic building for $725,000 to the five-county Joint Development Authority.

JDA plans to renovate the four-story building into office space, bringing up to 250 jobs to downtown Pelham. The project negotiations have lasted three years. Godwin says, "The main thing, we all wanted this to happen. It's not just one person that made this happen, it was the whole community."

Ace Hardware will move to a building behind the Hand Trading Company. The gift shop and restaurant will stay.

The renovation project will cost more than a million dollars. The building was built in 1916.
