Albany -- Helping save two women from a burning home earns a veteran of the Albany Fire Department the "Firefighter of the Year" award.

Captain Greg Maze was honored by the Exchange Club of Albany Friday afternoon, as he was named Firefighter of the Year.

June 25th at 4:30 in the morning, Captain Maze led his unit battling an arson fire at the Nottingham Apartments. Two women were trapped upstairs by the fire. Maze's unit rescued them without injury, and put out the blaze.

Maze said "It's a great honor to be picked from a group of people that any time anyone of them could be standing here right now. It's hard to take an individual reward when everything we do is team oriented."

Maze is a 22-year veteran of the Albany Fire Department.
