Valdosta- It is back on the road for the Valdosta State football team this week.
The Blazers, ranked number one in the first NCAA division two south regional poll, will have travel by bus and not chartered jet to Arkansas for Saturday afternoon's game with
Arkansas-Monticello.
This game will feature two of the top quarterbacks in the Gulf South Conference in Valdosta State's Barrett Wilkes, the reigning player of the week in the conference, leads the Gulf South with
14 touchdown passes
Monticello's Cory Allred meanwhile leads the G.S.C. in passing and total offense.
Being number one in total offense means that Cory Allred can also run the football and containing the Boll Weevils quaterback is one of the top priorities in the VSU game plan.
Head coach Chris Hatcher said "Whenever you face a quarterback that can beat you throwing and running, it is awfully tough. We are going to have to stay in our pass rushing lanes and we are going to have to stay at home. We are going to have to contain him first and that is the key to stopping their offense."
Valdosta State is 4-1 against Arkansas Monticello and 2-0 in Monticello where the Blazers will play for the first time in five years. Kickoff is 3:00 p.m. eastern.
