Saddle up and Read

October 7, 2003

Albany - Dougherty County teachers and principals are doing whatever it takes to get students excited about reading, including saddling up for a quick horse ride.

Radium Springs Elementary students laughed and screamed as they watched their principal gallop on a horse Tuesday. The horse ride kicked off the a county wide book campaign. Students must read 1,000,000 words or 25 book before the end of the year.

"I was so surprised that Ms. Parker our principal got on a horse. I thought she would be scared of them," said 5th grade student Deidra Smith.

Some of the most popular book for students are the "Goosebump" series and the traditional favorites by Dr. Suess.
