(Valdosta-AP) -- Barrett Wilkes threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns to lead second-ranked Valdosta State to a 42 to 21 Gulf South Conference victory over Ouachita Baptist today.
Wilkes directed scoring drives on the Blazers' first five possessions, sparking VSU (5-0, 3-0) to a 35 to 7 lead. Tyrone Jordan caught scoring passes of 22 and 14 yards, Greg Lofton scored from 45 yards out and Raymond Thomas was on the receiving end of a 54-yarder.
Tyran Robinson and Latray Walker scored the other Blazer touchdowns.
After V-S-U jumped to a 14 to 0 lead, the Tigers (2-2, 1-2) drove 80 yards and scored on a one-yard run by Josh Holcomb to cut the lead in half. But the Blazers scored three unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.
Ouachita Baptist turned two VSU turnovers into late touchdowns. Chris Lammers hit Slade Camp from 18 yards out after the fumble, and Holcomb scored on a 15-yard run after the interception.
