Americus- Former Southland Academy standout Chad Spann dreams of one day playing for the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park.
Spann has just returned from Boston where he got to see what life is like in the major leagues.
Chad was invited to Boston because after the Red Sox named him player of the year at the lower class-A level in their minor league system.
Playing for the Red Sox's farm team in Augusta, Spann was sixth in the South Atlantic League with a .312 batting average and 68 runs batted in.
Spann was named to the Sally League's end of the season all-star team as an utility infielder and was starting third baseman for the Southern Division at the summer all-star game.
A fifth round pick by the Red Sox last year, Chad says his visit to Boston only strengthen's his desire to make it to the big leagues.
Spann said "It is just, just a dream just working hard and everything and like I said I think it about everyday, getting to the big leagues."
Chad Spann plans to conduct his off season workouts at his home in Buena Vista and hopes to play for Boston's upper class-A farm team in Sarasota or AA team in Portland Maine next year.
