Albany - A Dougherty County teacher acquitted of molestation has resigned. As the school board discussed firing former Dougherty County middle school teacher Dan James on Wednesday, he decided to resign.

The Professional Standards Commission revoked James' teaching license last year even though a jury found him not guilty of molesting several students. "We thought the resignation would be the best way to resolve the issue without wasting more taxpayer money on a lengthy appeals process," said James' Attorney Maurice King.

James will remain in an administrative position until his contract ends January 15th. James says he plans to remain in Dougherty County and pursue a career in the ministry.
