West Nile case confirmed in Dougherty County

September 22, 2003

Albany- A Dougherty County man has tested positive for West Nile virus.

Health experts say that's proof you still need to protect yourself from mosquitoes even though summer ends tomorrow. This is the first confirmed West Nile case in the County this year.

The 77-year-old man is at home recovering after spending nine days in the hospital.

To protect yourself, use mosquito repellant with DEET, minimize outdoor activities 30 minutes before dark until 30 after dawn, and clean up any standing water on your property.
