Cook County - The land is cleared for the drag strip, and cement blocks are laid for the grand stand stadium. Construction is underway on a motor speedway that will initially employ 45 people and bring new entertainment to South Georgia.

"This is going to do for us what Wild Adventures did for Lowndes County," said Tim Pafford, Speedway Manager.

It's not just a racetrack. The multi-million dollar project will feature a variety of motor sports attractions. "There be the oval track, we'll have a drag strip, a garage area for car shows and concerts, and go cart racing," said Pafford.

That means more tourists and money for Cook County and all of South Georgia. "They're going to be eating in our restaurants, staying in our hotels, and fueling up at our gas stations," said Pafford.

Cathy Walker, owner of Walker's Barbecue and Grill in Adel, says the motor sports park is just what Cook County needs. "It will be great for my business, more people coming in to eat, and it's something we really need here for entertainment," said Walker.

Developers expect the drag strip to be open for racing in March, with the entire speed way up and running by mid-summer.
