Albany--The nursing shortage is attributed to a decrease in supply of nurses and an increase in demand. An aging workforce caring for an aging population points toward a severe nursing shortage by the year 2020.

Nursing recruiter Cindi Noe says "The baby boomers are getting older and their demand for healthcare is increasing. That's at 78 million boomers headed toward retirement age. "

The senate did approve an amendment to increase funds for nursing education last Wednesday.
