Lakeland-- A South Georgia police captain remains on administrative leave after shooting an escaped inmate.

Lakeland Police Captain Jeff Harrison shot 19-year-old Michael Palmer in the leg after he escaped from Patten Detention Center last week. Harrison spotted Palmer on Mack Lane a few hours after he escaped. After an altercation, he fired one shot.

Palmer was in the detention center for aggravated assault and obstruction.

He was treated for a shattered femur at South Georgia Medical Center and is now being held in the Ware State Prison.
