Albany -- Construction of the Flint RiverCenter is halfway complete. Work on the river aquarium and science center is on schedule, despite the heavy spring and summer rains.
The executive director of the Flint Rivercenter is on the job now. Dr. Doug Noble will oversee the Rivercenter from his office across the street from the construction site.
Noble comes to Albany from Indianapolis, where he was the director of a State Museum. Before that he directed a Memphis Museum. Noble said "I think a city or a town without a vibrant downtown is a city without a soul. Here we have a unique opportunity with this and many other things coming on line in the foreseeable future to make this really a neat area. People will want to come to downtown Albany to be a part of this."
Construction is expected to be complete in February 2004, with the grand opening in May or June.
