Tifton, Ga.--More than 90 golfers joined Tifton native Nanci Bowen this afternoon in her fourth annual charity golf tournament at Spring Hill Country Club.
The turnout was an all-time high for the event, which benefits Hospice and Oncology services of Tiftarea. Bowen, a touring professional on the LPGA tour, grew up in Tifton but now resides in Amelia Island, Florida.
The winner of the 1995 Dinah Shore title, Nanci Bowen is a 13-year veteran of LPGA tour. Her best finish this season was an eight place posting at the Wendy's Children's Championship last month in Ohio.
And although she insists the competitive drive to play the game is still there, Bowen says retirement is not that far off in the future.
"I'm thinking more of retiring. I'm starting my own business called tee-time entertainment that I have incorporated and I'm working. It's going to be an entertainment business that I'll be bringing LPGA players into Amelia Island to play with corporate executives. So, I'm in the process of building that, making out the brochure putting out the website. So that's kind of on the back burner so that when I do retire, I'll have something to do," Bowen said.
Bowen, currenltly ranked 105th on the LPGA tour money list this year, plans on playin in two more tournaments this season.
