(Statesboro-AP) -- Chaz Williams ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead Georgia Southern to a 35 to 0 victory over Savannah State tonight in the season opener for the Eagles.
Georgia Southern, the nation's second-ranked NCAA Division I-AA team, scored on its first two possessions against the Tigers who lost 62-to-12 to Bethune-Cookman in their opener last week.
Southern will play at top-ranked McNeese State next week in an early season meeting of I-AA powers. Williams, the Southern Conference's Offensive Player of the Year last year, scored on eight-yard runs in the first and third quarters and threw a 31-yard scoring pass to T-J Anderson in the third quarter.
He finished with 55 yards on 14 carries and completed four of six passes for 79 yards. He was intercepted once.
