Lowndes County - Funeral services are planned for a South Georgia teenager struck and killed by lightning.
Fifteen-year-old Jonathan Frances Murphy was outside his home on Spain Ferry Road Sunday helping his animals inside when he was struck by lightning. He died Wednesday at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
Jonathan's funeral will be Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at Music Funeral Home Chapel in Valdosta. A close friend says the family's doing as well as can be expected.
"There's a lot of grief, but there's also a lot of love and support in the family and they'll get through it together," said Joanne Coneley.
Jonathan didn't have any life insurance. A memorial fund has been set up at Guardian Bank in Valdosta to help the family pay for medical and funeral expenses.
