Valdosta- Valdosta State, ranked second in the first AFCA Division II poll of the season faces their first Division 1-AA opponent in six years when the Blazers travel to Boca Raton to face a young Florida Atlantic program coached by Howard Schnellenberger.
The Blazers scheduling the Owls after Fort Valley State dropped Valdosta State from their schedule.
The Florida Atlantic game is the first Division 1-AA opponent for the Blazers since they opened the 1997 season at Georgia Southern
. It will also put Valdosta State's streak of 28 straight regular season wins in jeopardy.
In fact, the Blazers have lost just one regular season game under Chris Hatcher and it came in his first season three years ago against Delta State.
Coach Hatcher says that his players are looking forward to putting that long regular season winning streak on the line against an opponent from a higher classification.
Hatcher said "Our guys have been talking all summer about the oppurtunity to go to Miami and play a team of their caliber. It is going to be a great experience for our team. We have been practicing hard all week and we are looking forward to the challenge."
Kickoff for Saturday's game is at 4:00 p.m..
