Valdosta - A South Georgia city is one step closer to deciding whether to implement it's own telecommunications system.

Thursday night, Valdosta's Telecommunications Advisory Committee recommended that Uptown Services conduct a study that will decide whether or not the city should provide telephone, cable, and Internet services. The Colorado firm will weigh the pros and cons of developing the system, which could cost up to 15 million dollars to set up.

"We hope that they mayor's council will endorse the recommendation, and that we can start immediately and be finished by Thanksgiving," said Larry Hanson, City Manager.

The city considered four different firms to conduct the study. The mayor's council will vote on whether to hire Uptown Services at their September 10th meeting.
