Americus-- The best glimpse of Mars might be found in Americus.

That's because Georgia Southwestern's observatory is open. Next Friday, the public is welcome to take a peek through the high powered telescope. Professor Stefan Dieters says, "The we should have one of the major features somewhere near the front of Mars and that is easy to spot, but people should be able to see the polar cap and this big feature."

The observatory was destroyed during a 1994 storm, but was rebuilt in time for this rare chance to see Mars. The public viewing starts at eight p.m.
