Former YMCA employee pleads not guilty

August 27, 2003

Albany - A South Georgia woman pleads not guilty to stealing money from a YMCA.

Toni Fillyaw had her first appearance in federal court in Albany today. Fillyaw was the business manager at the YMCA in Valdosta. She's accused of embezzling more than five-thousand dollars.

If convicted, she could face a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

Fillyaw was fired from the YMCA when the investigation began.

The YMCA director, Nicky Tampas, resigned in April, but was not connected with the case.
