Albany - City police may get a pay raise. But the raise wouldn't come for at least a year, if at all. City commissioners know the police department is having a tough time keeping good officers. They hope better pay will help change that.

City Commissioners are looking to the 2004 budget and asking the city manager to include a raise for officers. The raise would make APD pay equivalent to the salaries of Dougherty County officers.

Commissioners aren't promising the raises would come in 2004, but they acknowledge APD pay is lower than the County Police.
