Valdosta- After leading Valdosta State to the Division II national championship game as a sophomore, everyone assumed that Buster Faulkner would be the Blazers starting quarterback this year.
But, that is not the case.
With the season opener against Albany State just five days away, head coach Chris Hatcher has yet to name his starting quarterback for Saturday night's game with Albany State.
As a matter of fact, Buster Faulkner didn't start last year's game with Albany State.
Faulkner relieved Barrett Wilkes and led the Blazers to a 26-nothing win.
The junior from Atlanta started every game after that and finished the season with 41 touchdown passes and just 17 interceptions in more than 500 attempts.
Barrett Wilkes, who did engineer the winning touchdown drive against Arkansas Tech last year, has had an excellent pre-season camp and will play Saturday night according to Chris Hatcher.
Chris Hatcher said "Of course Buster led us to a great season last year. Wilkes has looked extremely good here during camp. And we are going to give both of them a shot and see which one is able to manage the team a little bit better."
Buster Faulkner said Let coach, he'll make the decision and he will put the best player out there and what is best for the team."
Valdosta State and Albany State will play Saturday night at seven o'clock at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
