Camilla- Mitchell-Baker's return to AA saw the Eagles return to the state playoffs for the first time in three seasons last year.
And the good news for the Eagles is the return 14 startrers from last year's team that made it to the second round of the state playoffs.
When head coach Elliott Walker came to Mitchell-Baker High School last year, he said his goal was to make football fun.
And that philosophy is already paying dividends with more than 60 players on this year roster--more than double the number from last season.
Coach Elliott Walker said "And the kids are having fun and the word is spreading around the building and they are having fun in the building trying to get their education. Football is a big thing in south Georiga and so I think the kids are enjoying themselves and as long as they are enjoying themselves we are going to coach the heck out of them."
And Mitchell-Baker coaches are looking forward to working with an offensive line that returns five of six starters. Junior quarterback Tramayal Jones is ready for his second season starting under center where he expects to give the ball alot to Willie Martin who moves from halfback to fullback in the Eagle offense.
Willie Martin said "The fullback gets more carries and I am looking forward to it. I want the ball."
Mitchell-Baker hopes Willie Martin and the offense will keep the ball alot since the Eagles did lose five starters on defense including both inside linebackers.
However outside linebacker Ben Brown, the leading tackler one year ago, is back along with cornerback Armon Saxon.
And while coach Walker wants to make football fun for his players, the Eagles know nothing is more enjoyable that winning.
Coach Walker said "They set the bar and we are just trying to get there and like I said Americus and Early County are the two teams to beat. That is what we have been talking to our team (about) ever since we lost to Americus last year and I have been watching that tape and I don't forget 55 points.
Mitchell-Baker also not forgotten they have lost three straight to arch-rival Pelham.
A losing streak the Eagles want to end when the two teams kick off the season Friday night in Camilla.
