Streamlining emergency response in South Georgia

August 21, 2003

Albany-- In the event of a terrorist attack, Dougherty County's emergency response will look a lot like Atlanta's.

That's because the Georgia Emergency Management Agency is reorganizing the different first responders under one strategy. It's called the Local Operations Emergency Plan.

Dougherty County's Emergency Management Coordinator says, "The better we can coordinate as first responders and the other departments with a local jurisdiction not only in Doughtery County but in any county it makes them more effective and coordinated which can help reduce damage and save lives."

The Plan will correct frequent problems that occur when different law enforcement agencies work together during an emergency, especially improving communication.
