Valdosta post office gets new name

Valdosta - A South Georgia post office is dedicated to the memory of a local Vietnam veteran.

The Northside Station Post Office in Valdosta was dedicated to Major Lyn Davis McIntosh today. McIntosh was born and raised in Valdosta, and left in 1980 for an Air Force rescue mission in Iran. He died on that assignment in an on the ground aircraft collision.

"This really means a lot to our family," said Scott McIntosh. "It's a tribute to our father, and also all the men and women serving in the military."

Lyn McIntosh taught math at Valdosta Junior High School from 1968 to 1969.

Back in 1981, the city of Valdosta dedicated an F-86 airplane memorial to McIntosh on North Ashley Street.
