Thomasville, Ga.--Coach Tommy Welch's Bulldogs are coming off an 8 and 3 season in which they won the region title, but a loss in the first round of the playoffs to Northeast Macon has the Bulldogs out to prove something this year.
And they plan on proving it with a strong defensive unit that returns seven starters from last year's team.
Defensive End Brandon Ross should set the tone for the Dogs this year with his huge frame and quick reaction off the ball. The Bulldogs also return their entire linebacking corps as well as both safeties this year, so Welch looks for big things from that side of the ball.
On offense, six starters are back this year, including quarterback Demario Thurman, who is coming off a solid 2002 season.
But despite all of the returning talent, coach Welch says the Bulldogs cannot afford to look ahead, and will make their run for a return trip to the playoffs one week at a time.
"Well, anything happens on a Friday night. We'll just take it one day at a time, one week at a time and get prepared. And then we'll see how it goes once we get into our regular season and into our region," Welch said.
Thomasville kicks off the season on September the 5th against Cairo.
