Former high school coach indicted

August 12, 2003

Blakely- A former Early County assistant football coach is awaiting trial on child sex charges.

Tommy Sosebee was indicted last month on a felony count of sexual exploitation of a child after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found evidence of child pornography on his home computer.

Sosebee also faces three misdemeanor counts of sexual exploitation of a child and misdemeanor charges of sexual battery and harassing phone calls.

The investigation started when a 14-year old Early County middle school student accused Sosebee of improperly touching her at school last October.

An investigator says that incident was witnessed by four other students.

As part of their investigation, Sosebee's home computer was searched and child pornography was found.

Sosebee's attorney says Sosebee's roommate downloaded the pornographic material and that the evidence will show his client is innocent of all the charges against him.

Sosebee is also charged with making harassing phone calls to a substitute teacher in Early County last fall.

Tommy Sosebee, the former head coach at Mitchell-Baker, was in his first season as Early County's offensive coordinator last year when he was suspended last fall.

Sosebee voluntarily resigned his position as a middle school health and physical education teacher in January.

He is free on bond waiting for his trial to be scheduled.
