Leesburg- For the past several years, Lee County's Zach Watkins has made a name for himself as the Trojans leadoff man.
Now, Watkins hopes to do the same for the ABAC Stallions.
Watkins signing a national letter of intent with ABAC this afternoon in the Lee County High School Gymnasium.
He becomes the 11th player ABAC Coach Steve Janosek has signed this year, and is expected to make a strong push for a starting position.
In his senior year for the Trojans, Watkins tallied 33 hits and 19 stolen bases while only striking out 4 times in over 125 plate appearances.
Watkins says he's excited about furthering his career and is looking forward to facing some familiar faces when conference play rolls around.
Yeah I've already made some friends that I'll have friendly rivalries with, here at Darton and things like that. Like the guys I play legion with," Watkins said.
Watkins joins an ABAC team that just missed the state GJCAA tournament last season.
