Albany - If you plan to drive on the Marine base in Albany, don't talk on your cell phone.

A ban was recently passed that forbids the use of cell phones while driving unless you are using a hands free device. The ban applies to all base employees and the general public. If you are caught using your cell phone without a hands-free device, your base driving record will be flagged.

Michael Willingham is an MP on the base. He says, "We just saw that there was a lot of traffic accidents coming with cell phones. People were being distracted, so when the industry went and had a hands free device to make it a little safer, the Marine Corps picked this policy up and came down with all the different bases and now we're running with it here in Albany.

The ban is effective immediately.
