GSW coach dies at 38

Americus- Georgia Southwestern University is mourning the death of women's basketball coach Rosa Stokes.

The 38-year old Stokes died this morning at Kennestone Hospital in Atlanta.

The sports information office at Long Beach State where Stokes was once an assistant coach, says she was waiting for donor to be found for a heart transplant when she died.

 Rosa Stokes had served as head womens' basketball coach at Georgia Southwestern for the last two years.

Her overall record was 26-35.

In her first season, she guided a roster of only six players to an 11-19 record and last season the Lady Hurricanes finished a game under .500 and were 9-9 in the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina conference.

 A graduate of Tennessee Tech, Rosa Stokes was an assistant coach at Chattanooga and Long Beach State before she was hired at Georgia Southwestern.

Funeral arrangements for Rosa Stokes are pending and a memorial service may be held at Georgia Southwestern.
