Athens, GA.-- The 2002 SEC football championship is now just a sweet memory for the Georgia football team who hit the practice field for the first time this season to begin their defense of that title.
The entire Bulldog team was on the field in helmets and shorts as the new NCAA rules require teams to hold five one-a day practices. Georgia will hold their first two a day practice on Saturday and they cannot hold two-a-day practices on two straight days.
Another new change is that freshman and upperclassmen both reported at the same time meaning today's practice was the first for Albany's Dana Graydon. Before he even stepped on the practice field, the freshman from Dougherty High has quickly learned there is a big difference between high school and college football.
"On the field, I would say on this level of football it's more mental than physical, you know what I mean. It's good to be physically fit, but you have to have it mentally before you can go on to the field," Graydon said.
Georgia of course opens the season August 30th at Clemson. Picture day for the Bulldog team is August 23rd at the Athens Classic Center.
