Tifton-Valdosta State assistant basketball coach Todd Sheppard is finally getting his chance to be head coach at the collegiate level.
Sheppard has been named mens head basketball coach at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton.
Sheppard has served as Jim Yarbrough's top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the last three years for a Valdosta State team that posted a 54-29 record and the school's first eastern division championship in the Gulf South Conference in 2002.
Todd Sheppard's goal at ABAC is to build the Stallions into one of the top junior college teams in the nation.
Something he believes will not be that hard due to the support the school receives from the community and the completion of a new men's dorm.
Todd Sheppard said "There is a reason why they are at a junior college and I think to have a city and town that is supportive of your school, ABAC and to have a city and a town that has some of the amenities but not alot of distractions for those young men so that they can keep their priorities in line."
Todd Sheppard succeeds Robert Moore who is now the head basketball coach at Tift County High School.
