ASU student missing for 2 weeks

August 1, 2003

Albany- The July 11th surveillance tape from the August Kroger grocery store shows Ravone Pernell leaving her job. It was the last time she was seen alive.

Investigators say she then got into the car with her step-brother, Lamark Grubbs, Junior, who Richmond County deputies also say is her boyfriend. Grubbs was arrested Thursday night. He's charged with kidnapping and battery.

Working on a tip, deputies turned their search to the Savannah River.

"We're checking the river. See if we can find any evidence of the remains of the female that's missing. We didn't find anything," says Captain Mike Prickett of the Richmond County Sheriff's Department.

Still, Pernell's mother remains confident she will be reunited with her daughter.

"I'm going to keep the faith, I'm going to keep the hope, and stay positive at all times. I feel that they are going to bring her back to me one day," says Jeanette Sealy Grubbs.

Albany State University officials say campus public safety officers have been working with Richmond County sheriff's deputies.

Pernell was not enrolled in summer classes at ASU. Deputies believe she was going to return to Albany for fall semester.

Richmond County deputies spent Friday searching the Savannah River and abandoned houses looking for Pernell.
