Valdosta - A local pastor has fond memories of a Georgia soldier killed in Iraq.

Sergeant Nathaniel Hart was killed in Tillil Iraq Monday when his vehicle ran off the road and rolled over.

He grew up in Valdosta. Reverend Johnnie Quarterman attended church with Hart at Mount Zion Church of God, where he played the drums and sang in the choir.

He remembers when Hart decided to go into the military.   "He was really excited about it," said Quarterman.  "He actually wanted to go into the Air Force, but he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and enlist in the Army."

Hart's father pastored the Mount Zion church of God in the early 80's.

Reverend Quarterman visited with the family earlier this week and says they're doing as well as can be expected.

Hart was part of the 416th Transportation Company, 260th Quartermaster Battalion based at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.
