Moody sergeant receives top honors

July 21, 2003

Lowndes County - Master Sergeant Jeff Hollinshead loves his job at Moody Air Force Base. "I do what I do because our job is to take care of people and I get that opportunity every day," said Hollinshead.

And he's the best at what he does. The Air Force has named him it's First Sergeant of the Year. "This is an incredible thing that I never expected," said Hollinshead.

Hollinshead is part of Moody's 347th Maintenance Squadron. His job is to take care of personnel matters, so his fellow airmen can maintain aircraft for the base's missions. "We do all the back shop maintenance on the HH60's, C-130's, T-6's, and T-8's, so they can get out there and do the task at hand," said Hollinshead.

He was nominated for the award by his former commander, then selected from several other squadron's as the base's nominee. "We competed at a group level, wing level, then team Moody level," said Hollinshead. "Then we went to a numbered base level, match com level, and eventually the Air Force level."

Hollinshead's fellow airmen aren't surprised at his accomplishment. "This award is a perfect description of his daily performance," said Chief Master Sergeant Daniel France. "He works extremely hard, and really deserves this recognition."

Hollinshead will receive his award at the Air Force's First Sergeant banquet in Las Vegas next month.
