Shoppers stop to donate blood

July 19, 2003

Albany- Members of the American Red Cross held a 5-hour blood drive at the Albany Mall Saturday hoping to get shoppers to take a minute and donate blood.

Several stores even held a contest to see who could give the most pints. Red Cross officials say location is sometimes the key to a successful blood drive.

"We try to make it as convenient as possible for blood donators to donate. So, we go to the malls and churches, and just anywhere where it going to be convenient for the donors," says India Cross.

97.3 Real Rock radio station also did their best to encourage South Georgians to give blood. One of their DJ's spend 24-hours on a billboard hoping to convince people to donate.
