The quest for the Cup

July 16, 2003

Albany, Ga.-- The sixth annual Buffalo Rock Challenge Cup tees off this weekend at River Pointe Golf Club with four area clubs vying for bragging rights.

Wednesday night the four clubs held a pairings party for the two day tournament at Merry Acres restaurant. This year's format is a little different than in year's past in that there will only be four clubs represented, after Radium Springs dropped out, and instead of two days of individual play Saturday will be an alternate shot format.

River Pointe Golf Club head pro Gary Clark, who's team will look to defend the Cup, says the new format should add a different twist to the Challenge Cup. "I think the alternate shot is going to be very interesting. We have the pro playing with the nine (handicap) and above and the others are kind of divided up pretty evenly. But I think it's going to be very exciting, it will be different for the players," Clark said.

Clark also said that next year he plans on having both Radium and Flint River in the Challenge Cup as well as possibly Twin Oaks, the 9 hole golf course on the Marine base. The Challenge Cup will tee off Saturday morning at 9am.
