(Atlanta-AP) -- University of Georgia fans displeased at school president Michael Adams' decision to force athletic director Vince Dooley to retire next year plan to protest.

The fans say they have 60,000 names on a petition calling for Adams' resignation. They will present the petition to the Board of Regents in Atlanta today. No regents are likely to be on hand.

A staff person in the communications department is expected to receive the petitions. Adams announced June fifth that he was turning down Dooley's request to extend his contract beyond June 2004.

Since then, fans have launched Web sites, posted billboards and printed hats and bumper stickers denouncing Adams. Fans will hand over the petition a few hours before the annual meeting of the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club, which will be held tonight in Midtown Atlanta.

The event -- which usually attracts more than 2,000 Bulldog fans -- is expected to honor Dooly.

The regents issued a statement in June declaring their unanimous backing of Adams' decision not to extend Dooley's contract.
