Albany - A south Albany Fire Station is moving. The fire department is building a new station five on the corner of Newton Road and Gaines Avenue, across the street from the old building.
The current station will stay open during the construction, so fire response in south Albany will not be put in jeopardy. "This part of a major ongoing SPLOST project to improve the quality of the fire department and its equipment," said Chief James Arrowood.
On Monday, county commissioners agreed to sell the plot of land to the city for $55,000. The new station will be paid for with tax money.
