New GA Driver's Licenses

July 9, 2003

Albany - Changes are coming for Georgia Driver's Licenses. The Department of Motor Vehicles is improving security measures to make licenses harder to counterfeit.

The license for drivers under 21 will now be vertical instead of horizontal, making it more distinguishable. If you get your license at the DMV, you will receive a temporary license for 45 days. The wait allows for more extensive background checks. You'll still be able to renew by mail, in which case you only get a permanent license.

The new cards will be available statewide by the end of September, but you don't have to get a new one until your current license expires.
