Albany-The 82nd annual Georgia Amateur Championship tees off this Thursday at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, with two Albany natives hoping to make a name for themselves.
Brent Dorner and Dave Hill will be apart of the 156 player field this week in Kennesaw, after they both qualified with even par 72s last month at Doublegate Country Club. Dorner and Hill are no strangers to State Amateur play, both played in last year's event at Doublegate, but did not fare as well as they would've like on their hometown course.
Nevertheless, the duo believes their past experiences in this tournament along with the way they've been playing of late gives them some much needed confidence entering the state's most prestigious amateur tourney.
"Things are starting to come around. I played well a couple of weeks ago in the Atlanta Open, I led after the first round and faltered a little bit on the second day. I've played some good tournaments, I played the Hooters event here and I played really well and I'm looking forward to the challenge," Dave Hill said.
"I have very high goals for myself. I feel like my game is really good right now and I mean you never know with golf because golf is that sort of game but if I don't have a good tournament I'll be very disappointed in myself," Brent Dorner said.
Dorner and Hill will tee off in the afternoon group in Thursday's first round.
