Albany-- A hospital is being sued for giving a blood transfusion to a patient against her wishes.

The family of Rosie Williams is suing HCA Palmyra Hospital because of a blood transfusion she got in June 2001.

According to the suit, Williams told the nurses she was a Jehovah's Witness and the transfusion went against her religious beliefs. The hospital only gave her the blood after one of Williams' family members consented to it.

Her family is suing the hospital for unspecified damages. A spokesperson for Palmyra Hospital says they haven't seen the lawsuit yet and it would be premature to comment about it.

Williams died in August 2001.
