South Georgia nursing home gets poor ratings

July 2, 2003

Homerville - The Consumers Union is keeping a close eye on Clinch Healthcare Center. In their annual inspection reports from 2000, 2001, and 2002, the nursing home received poor ratings.

One woman, who didn't want to be identified, has first hand experience with the facility. "My husband was in Clinch Healthcare for a few months this year. He was transferred there from Greenleaf."

Her husband's stay at Clinch Healthcare Center was anything but pleasant. After just two months, she moved him to another nursing home. "He was depressed all the time and hated it. He told me he was determined to get out of there."

She remembers dirty linens and a dark, gloomy atmosphere. "His room was always dirty, his clothes were dirty, and the whole place was dark and dingy. It also had a nasty odor."

According to the Consumers Union, the nursing home was rated on quality of care, violations, and their willingness to make inspection reports readily available. After her husband's experience, this woman says she's not surprised they scored low. "I knew it was just a matter of time before someone turned them in."

Clinch Healthcare Center was purchased by Brentwood Healthcare in April 2002, one month after their annual inspection. We contacted the corporate office and administrator multiple times, but both declined to comment.
