Albany- Economists say most people just don't shop around. Comparison shopping can save you a lot. Even small price differences add up, and buying store brands can shed big money off your total bill.
But nothing is more important than keeping a good record of what you buy. "I think the first thing I'll advise someone to do is some kind of budgeting. So, you start with your income and how much you're going to be spending in the future. Once you stick to your budget then you can save. That's the first thing everyone should do," says economist Amit Singh.
Creativity doesn't hurt. Try checking out kids movies from the library instead of the video store. They've got hundreds of titles that can be checked out for a week, FREE.
