Albany-- Investigators try to find out if a man they've been hunting was picked up in Florida. Police in Ft. Pierce, Florida arrested an Albert Smith Monday on a misdemeanor charge.
But before they found out he was wanted in Albany on murder charges, he was released.
Now investigators try to sort through confusion in Florida, to find out if it really was the Albert Smith they believe killed a man in January. Investigators say Smith was one of three men who killed Xavier Hines behind the House of Jazz nightclub January 4th.
Hines owed them money. Albany Police are trying to help Florida authorities find Smith. "Find out that he gave a different name and they did not have any type of photo of the subject at the time," said Albany Police Lt. James Williams. "We are in the process now of sending them the photos and the prints of the subject we are looking for involved in the murder case. We hope he is still in this area, and we can wrap this case up."
Albany Police have charged Broderick Wilcox and Vernardo Hendley with Hines murder. Investigators continue to communicate with Ft. Pierce Police in their search for the third murder suspect, Albert Smith.
