Dawson-- Did Dawson Mayor Robert Albritten abuse his office when he intervened in the arrest of a friend?

On June 19th, a bench warrant was issued for Eddie Keith, a part-time employee at Albritten's funeral home business. Keith was wanted for a probation violation. According to police reports, Albritten asked Assistant Chief L.C. Cooper to wait until the next day to arrest Keith because he wouldn't have bond money until then. Cooper agreed to do it. Police Chief Lee Webb says he verbally reprimanded Cooper for agreeing to the Mayor's request, saying the Mayor, in his opinion, has no right to intervene. Mayor Albritten did not return several requests for comment.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the Dawson Police Department is still ongoing. The City Council called for a review after a series of citizen complaints. The review is expected to be wrapped up soon.
