JEKYLL ISLAND - Randolph Day, 18, of Tifton died Wednesday morning when the SUV he was riding in crashed and burst into flames.

Gonzalez was riding with two other lifeguards on the way to work when the wreck happened.

The SUV was driven by Jonathan Gonzalez, 19, of Valdosta. According to State Patrol Corporal Chad Riner, the sport utility vehicle veered off the road, struck and bounced off an oak tree and returned to the roadway where it hit a pickup truck and burst into flames.

A female passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Priscilla Boone of Darien was also killed in the wreck. Gonzalez was seriously injured and taken to a Brunswick hospital.

The passengers in the pickup truck were not seriously injured.

Day, Gonzalez and Boone were all lifeguards at Jekyll Island's Summer Waves water park. Opening was delayed for a few minutes while grief counselors consoled the staff.
